Summer

Summer is the hottest of the four temperate seasons falling between spring and autumn. At the summer solstice the days are longest and the nights are shortest, with day-length decreasing as the season progresses after the solstice. The date of the beginning of summer varies according to climate tradition and culture. When it is summer in the Northern Hemisphere it is winter in the Southern Hemisphere and vice versa. Summer is traditionally associated with hot or warm weather. In the Mediterranean regions, it is also associated with dry weather, while in other places particularly in Eastern Asia because of the Monsoon it is associated with rainy weather. The wet season is the main period of vegetation growth within the savanna climate regime. Where the wet season is associated with a seasonal shift in the prevailing winds it is known as a monsoon. Summer is the warmest of all four seasons, between spring and autumn. In summer, the days become long and the nights become short. People can work more and be out for long if they have to work for long hours. People like going out and enjoy nature, that can be happen only in summer. Summer is the best enjoying time. Everybody waits for summer for months.  People they plan for summer in advance to do their major work done. Not only are you less stressed in the summer, but your actually happier as well. All that sunlight boosts your levels of the feel good hormone serotonin while suppressing melatonin which makes you sleepy. Furthermore people tend to be more social in the summer hosting barbecues and going to pool parties. All that social interaction boosts your mood. When it’s cold out, we crave comfort foods especially on holidays like Thanksgiving. But there are far fewer food-centric holidays in the summer months. Plus the heat makes you crave light cold refreshing foods. That means more fresh produce which happens to be more abundant nutritious and delicious this season. Finally you’re also far more likely to serve that food in a healthy way. Think grilled or raw instead of drowned in a bechamel sauce. Summer work clothes are hard to find.  I mean clothes for grown-ups. And an office where the a/c is set at 68 and it's 98 outside. Save the plunging necklines and halter tops for evening.  Sorry, but the backless sundress is perfect for a picnic, not a Very Important Meeting. This is why many of my summer clothes are almost old enough to vote.  Some vintage pieces could be collecting Social Security. Now is the best time to find fresh produce, healthy choices. Kale and green beans, for example.  But it's hard to resist the bad foods of summer French fries hot dogs burgers ice cream, popsicles, root beer floats, buttery popcorn, BBQ ribs dripping with hot sauce, fried chicken, nachos, pizza.
