Health coaching is the use of evidence based skillful conversation clinical
interventions and strategies to actively and safely engages client patients in
health behavior change. Health coaches are certified or credentialed to safely
guide clients and patients who may have chronic conditions or those at moderate
to high risk for chronic conditions. Health and Wellness
Coaches partner with clients seeking self directed lasting changes aligned
with their values which promote health and wellness and thereby enhance
well being. A health coach can spend the time to help someone figure out
what their personal health and wellness issues are how they intersect
and affect them holistically and help them develop strategies to overcome them
whether it's that they want to lose weight reduce stress sleep better or lower
the risk of chronic. Health coaching also referred to as wellness coaching
is a process that facilitates healthy sustainable behavior change by
challenging a client to listen to their inner wisdom identifies their values
and transform their goals into action. A Health Coach is a supportive
mentor and wellness authority who works with clients to help them feel their
best through food and lifestyle changes. Instead of prescribing one diet or way
of exercising Health Coaches tailor individualized wellness programs to
meet their clients' needs. Life coaching has
grown to be a hugely successful form of talking therapy to the extent that it
has helped turn people's lives around. A life coach is someone that
looks to empower others by helping them make meet and exceed goals in both
their personal and professional lives. The Wellness Training Library
includes everything you need for both your managers who help to set up and
manage a workplace wellness program and your employees to learn about
keeping themselves and their families healthy. Health coaching is a relatively new
occupational field and one that is growing in popularity. As people are
starting to become more health conscious and or requiring health interventions
an integrated approach is needed to best achieve overall health in patient’s clients.
The health coach role has arrived as a long overdue solution. Health coaches
provide guidance and management in the major components of health including
diet physical activity and wellness. They help people identify their ideal
health goals define a customized plan and guide them in putting the plan into
action. This basically involves determining what areas of their clients
lifestyle need to be changed for the better and making sure those changes are
implemented. Given the multiple components of health and well being you must be
versed in to perform this job effectively having a background in fitness or
health care is a must. One way to show that you have taken the proper steps
towards being more qualified is by becoming certified as a health coach. If not
already a requirement certification can definitely increase your hiring
potential when applying for health coaching jobs. This certificate is awarded
after completing the foundation course at Duke Integrated Medicine. This
program is broken up into various modules and allows the student to have a
break between each module for the purpose of having time to practice the skills
they have learned in a clinical setting. Each module consists of around 30
hours of classroom learning that will be combined with some distance learning
via online presentations and conference calls. The majority of the program is
on campus. The Well coaches Core Health Coach Training program takes 18 weeks
to complete and culminates in an oral and written exam for the organization’s
Health and Wellness Coach Certification. This certification is required to
enroll in the Well coaches Professional Health Coach training program which
consists of a 10 month curriculum. The Well coach’s health coaching program
incorporate the effectiveness of evidence based coaching skills and learning
innovation to develop health coaches that can provide long term wellness and
health improvements for their clients.
